Leaving Munich – Aug. 2024

Dear Readers.

Its official. After 13 years of living in Munich, Germany. Life is taking me ( and my little family) onto other adventures.

10 days ago I took  a French TGV train toward Paris, and then on toward the West coast where I will permanently live with my partner and baby ( on an island ! ) until ……… ?!?

I already started to get very nostalgic this past Spring as I realized that this was my last time seeing the Wild Garlic in Munichs green parks. It was also my last summer swimming in the cold mountain waters of the Isar river just outside my door. And my last time biking the paths through the english garden.

I moved to Munich in September 2011, to follow a great love and start up my adult life and photography career. And now, 13 years later, life is taking me to France.

So now that I have moved 1500 kilometres West to start anew as a family of 3 next to sea, I thought I would make an ode to Munich and my favourite places & spots, those I will miss dearly. ( Because I lived in the Lower Au/unterer Au Neighborhood, Most of these places are close to there.

Food & Drink

  • Café Faber ( awesomeeeee food & vibes )
  • Little Daruma ( sadly closed now )
  • Café Huller ( cozy cafe with a perfect sunset spot )
  • Gratitude ( mega vegan dinner Resto )
  • Türkisch ( the ultimate Munich Döner )
  • Brot Raum ( best fresh baked wood oven bread ! )
  • Frisches Bier ( the real German pub ! )
  • Mai Garten ( authentic Chinese run by the nicest family )
  • Humbolts ( pasta and concert evenings from the best team ! )
  • Solo Pizza ( big and cheap and tasty neighborhood spot )

Parks & Nature

  • The Rosengarten Park ( brings you to a new world through sight & smell )
  • Fruhlingsanlagen ( old trees and green grasses inspire )
  • Englischer Garten ( never ending paths & icy streams for bathing )
  • The Preysingerstrasse ( one of the cutest streets in Munich )
  • Perlacher Forst ( Tall pines and mossy floors close to the city for the best walks )
  • Auer Bach ( this cold running water rejuvenates me )
  • The Isar River from the Reichenbachbruecke to Thalkirchen ( for dog walking, bathing and sunning. It’s the place to be !  )

Sights

  • Photography Exhibitions at the Kunstfoyer der Versicherungs Kammer Bayern ( I went here gladly and for free ! )
  • All those Mountain Lakes ( Especially when they are still and flat like a mirror )
  • Munichs Old City Streets ( especially at night when all is still and quiet )

  • Buchhandlung am Gasteig ( the best selection and great location ! )
  • Globetrotter ( Germany’s best Outdoor sports store ! )
  • Christmas markets ( and the hot roasted almonds and thousands of little lights that come with them ! )
  • Pop Up Rooftop Bars ( Like the one at the Gasteig ! )

General

  • Bavarian Craft Beer  ( France has a long way to go in the craft brewery department ! ) Thank You Tilmans Biere !
  • Ahhh the Brezn ( These Bavarian soft large pretzels rule all )
  • Patagonia Munich’s Outdoor Sports Store ( and it’s Awesome Team )
  • Biergartening with Friends ( so long beer nights, bike rides and tasty summer meals outside )
  • Alpine Huts & Hikes ( I’ve been to maybe 40? One only better then the next )
  • All those Tramways & Bus Rides ( Through the city, with music in my ears. Learning and watching forward from within )
  • The down.dog Yoga classes ( indoors, outdoors and on top of a mountain. This is a great crew to be with ! )

Now that I am leaving behind this place I have called home now for a different and equally amazing place, I realize how thankful I am to you Germans/Münchener for being here.

For reading my blogs and posts & emails. For being with me during retreats and outdoor events. And photo shoots, and cooking evenings. During long walks, and yoga classes. At farmers markets, hiking mountains and during river swims. And at all bbqs and family dinnners …….

Now it’s time to make memories somewhere new.

Danke München 🥨😘👋 It was a pleasure to meet you .

My approach to photography is simple and pure. I use only natural light to create an image; and work hard to develop an artistic photo, whether it be for a client or as a self project. I do not care about staging shots, excessive make up, and set ups. I capture what is there, with love for that special moment. With an advanced diploma in photography from Canada, I choose to follow my dream to work as a freelance photographer. With over 10 years in experience, I can capture your special moments, smiling faces, products or food in a simplistic, colourful and uncomplicated way. I photograph with my heart and believe in sustainability, conscious consumption and responsibility. When you book a photography session, purchase an image, or participate in a workshop or retreat, you are supporting social organizations and projects. I run my small business on green electricity, all print material is climate-neutral and supports other charitable projects for people and the environment. This is a very important concept for me to follow. Every daily decision and choice we make, has the potential to create a cleaner and happier community and world. If you are interested in purchasing fine art photographs or my cookbook, hoping to have images taken or just want to connect, I am happy to make a new friend.
